MPJでは、今年度から、総括的な支援を実施しているミレニアム・ビレッジ・プロジェクト（MVP)の中で最も欠けていると思われる女児の教育支援を集中的に行うことにしています。
まずは、昨年5月に理事長・鈴木りえこが訪れ強い印象を受けたウガンダのミレニアム・ビレッジ、ルヒーラ村から支援を開始しました。ルヒーラ村チームは、MVPの中でも積極的に新しい試みを行っているチームとして評判です。
支援プロジェクトの内容を把握してより確実なものとするために、昨年秋からMPJオフィスでボランティアとしてお手伝いくださったナオミ・ウィリアムさんを、今年1月より4月上旬までルヒーラ村に派遣して、すべての少女の自宅を訪れインタビューを実施、2月の新学期からは彼女たちの中学校とその寄宿舎へも個別訪問していただきました。
ルヒーラのMVPではすでに女児の中学校進学支援を開始していましたが、UNDPからの支援金額が減少しているため、MPJが引きつぐことになりました。ただし、成績表とインタビューを通じて、UNDPが支援してきた11人の中から優秀な成績を維持している８人に絞り、さらに3名の新入生を支援しています。
この新入生3名は、MVPの支援制度ができたために懸命に勉強を続け、村始まって以来初めて国が実施している小学校卒業試験で「デビジョン１」というトップクラスの成績を収めました。しかも一挙に3名が同時にトップクラスに輝き、村の誇りとなっています。
この3月にはMPJ理事長・鈴木が有志の皆さんとともにルヒーラ村を訪れ、中学校の寄宿舎に住む女児たちを訪ねてきました。
MPJでは彼女たちが初心を貫き、将来の夢を実現できるためのお手伝いを続けたいと願っています。皆様からのご支援・ご協力もよろしくお願いいたします！

This is the Millennium Village Project under the United Nations from Japan.
Oh how you’ve helped her! As she was crying in the wilderness she heard your merciful voice calling out to her, “You have been sponsored because you came out with flying colours in Primary Leaving Examinations.” Oh how lucky she was that you gave her free education in a school of her dream! It was unfortunate that her parents were hard up but thank God she also shares on Girl Child Education like others.
And not only are you aiding her alone but also the parents. This is by providing the good varieties of seeds, breeds of goats. Women at large have been provided with trucks for transporting their harvests.
As well, the Village mates have been provided with good road network, banks for saving, sensitization of infants and youth about AIDS control measures and values of education as well.
Eventually, people are trying to work by hook and crook thereby there is a transformation of uncivilised to civilised, poor to quite rich, inactive to active and creative, and hence development.
